How do you know if you are physically fit? Can I be at risk for weight-related diseases such as stroke, heart attack, or diabetes? How do I know if my weight is ideal? Fortunately for me, I can consult my BMI. But if you were like me I had no idea the meaning of BMI? But I quickly learned that it had nothing to do with a Bike. BMI, or Body Mass Index, refers to the weight of a person depending on his or her height. It does not depend on expensive diagnostic equipments, a mere calculation of the height and weight will do. BMI uses these factors to calculate the total amount of weight you have, and whether it is adequate for you, making you aware if you are malnourished—either too thin, or obese. Indications range from a scale of 15, 18.5, 25 to 30, 30 to 40, and up to greater than 40, with references to starvation, underweight, overweight and obese. The standard weight should be within the 18.5 to 25 category.
Although the BMI calculates your total weight, it does not consider important factors such as muscularity and the frame category a person is in, such as endomorph, ectomorph, or mesomorph. BMI is also inaccurate in calculating the total body fat, for it does not take into account that muscles mass, water, and bone mass also contribute to the weight of a person. But regardless of this, With BMI I was able to get a general look at the state my health. It was a wake up call for me and reminded me that I needed to take better care of my body.
