Milk Helps You Burn Fat
By Sarah Dallins, Project Weight Loss staff writer
October 20, 2007

Two glasses of milk after intense physical activity may increase the rate of burning fats and help you develop muscular mass, according to a study conducted by researchers at the McMaster University in Canada.

The study involved men with poor muscular mass and worked out one hour per each working day during a three months period. The participants did not follow any special fitness plan but worked out all muscle groups. The subjects from one group had a glass of non-fat milk after the workout and another one later. Those who had milk after the practice gained up to sixty percent more muscular mass compared to those in the group who drank high-carb beverages.

The group that consumed milk daily after the workout also lost bigger amounts of fat due to the higher concentration of calcium. The study`s results are considered valid for women as well.

A German study recently revealed that it`s not good to add milk to tea because milk may cancel all the tea benefits. Milk contains casein, a protein that is the main component in cheese, but damages the nitric oxide in tea. The nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels and offers protection against cardiovascular diseases.

Dairy products may prevent the development of certain diseases such as obesity, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and colon cancer, according to researchers. Experts also sustain that regular milk consumption may keep body weight under control. Children these days usually don`t drink milk as often as they should and prefer sweet beverages and expose to the risk to become overweight or suffer from diabetes.
