Portia de Rossi: How to Recover from Anorexia?
By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor
October 23, 2008

She is now married to comedian Ellen DeGeneres and now supports gay marriages that still seem to be a taboo.  Portia de Rossi is very happy with her life and we must agree, considering the way she looks.  When she was playing Nell Porter in Ally McBeal, she was hot.  What did she do exactly to make her lawyers colleagues melt when she was passing by?

The 33-years-old actress doesn’t have a good image in the media when it comes to her eating habits.  Portia is known to have an eating disorder since forever.  She confesses she’s been struggling with anorexia for a long time.  Portia decided to share her experience with the public, so women understand the rough time she’s had while eating 300 calories a day and purging afterwards.

An interview was published in the April 2006 issue of Vogue magazine.  "I would eat 300 calories a day - a lot of Jell-O and no-sugar everything, of course.  I was doing Pilates, weight-training, circuit training; over lunch I would run on a treadmill in my dressing room with a fan on my face so I wouldn't sweat my makeup off."

It is a known fact that being thin in Hollywood, o the red carpet, is a must if you want to be famous, but sometimes stars take exaggerated measures.  Aside from this problem, Portia de Rossi is a beautiful woman.  She was chosen, in May 2007, one of People Magazine’s annual 100 Most Beautiful People in the World.  As an actress, she is mostly known for her part in Ally McBeal series, where she played Nelle Porter, an ambitious lawyer.

During this period, she was following a special diet to lose weight. Portia was eating a lot of sugar-free jello, chicken, fish and vegetables.  Unfortunately, she was also drinking black coffee and smoking cigarettes.  She was also running for an hour, during her lunch break, and doing Pilates.  On top of all, she was standing up while eating and that is something that specialists in nutrition do not recommend.

After she began to date Ellen DeGeneres, her life changed. The comedian girlfriend helped her get through this, emotionally and physically. Portia started eating healthy food and now she prefers activities such as cardio, horseback riding and swimming.
