December 08, 2008The 3 Day Diet is described to be “safe, simple and effective”. This popular short-term weigh loss method was created for people who need to lose a lot of weight in little time. Losing ten pounds in three days would be great, but what do critics say?
Even though some nutritionists don’t consider it a safe weight loss method, founders say this is not a starvation diet and that meals are normal and eaten at normal hours. Obviously, it’s implied that this is a low calorie diet and it will do no wonders unless calories are cut from the meal plan. Also, it must be taken into account that most of the weight lost is, in fact, water loss, and not fat.
The downside is that people tend to gain weight after following this diet. This side effect is caused primarily by overeating once the three days of diet are over. “The plan yields about 1,000 calories a day which has the ability to lower metabolism so when you revert back to normal eating, you regain weight even quicker, “ explains Cindy Moore, director of nutrition therapy at The Cleveland Clinic .
The meal plan is a simple one. Breakfast includes black coffee, tea or water, half a grapefruit, and one slice of toast with a tablespoon of peanut butter. One egg, a toast and a banana also constitutes a good breakfast. For lunch you can have half a cup of tuna with a slice of toast and the traditional tea, black coffee or water. You can also consider a cup of cottage cheese and some saltine crackers.
Dinner includes two beef franks or hot dogs, half a cup of carrots, one banana, one cup of broccoli or cabbage, half a cup of vanilla ice cream and, of course, black coffee, tea or water. To make foods more delicious, you may add condiments, such as lemon, mustard and salt or pepper. The weird part of this diet is that it does not mention exercise as a part of the weigh loss process, which may be considered a plus for some.
