December 10, 2008The comedy "Nothing Like the Holidays” debuts in U.S. theaters on Friday and Debra Messing has monopolized the eye of the camera. The actress has the typical slim, gold-standard body type from Hollywood. Stylist Brenda Cooper says some actresses are just naturally beautiful and fit, but there must be more to this then genetics.
The 40-year-old Messing won an Emmy for Best Actress for her role in Will & Grace sitcom, which got the attention of the media. She was certainly beautiful but not really a size o, as required in Hollywood. Diet and discipline got her from a size 8 to a size 4. “It was easier for me to dress,” says Debra Messing.
Messing is not a big fan of exercise but she tries her best, considering she’ll be on the cover of Shape magazine’s January 2009 issue. But the thing she is committed to is, she admits, “French fries. Seriously”. After giving birth to her son, Roman, in 2004, she didn’t exactly started dieting a.s.a.p. For three month, her only daily routine was breast-feeding. Not exactly the Hollywood approach, but she lost 33 pounds in a few months.
Tabloids punished her for the unusual approach. “On one page it showed all the actresses who got skinny in six weeks or less and on the other page was me! I was so depressed and frustrated,” says the Will & Grace star. After a few months, she started working with a personal trainer, but found it hard to cope. “I was exhausted! I cut back on seeing the trainer but started eating healthier,” she explains.
42 pounds lighter, Messing feels and looks great, and has no regrets concerning her choice to lose weight . “I'm very proud of how I dropped the weight because I think it was the healthy approach”, said Messing. These days, she is on a strict diet and has a personal trainer which helps her stay slim. The main rules? No doughnuts, no fast food, but, instead, lots of vegetables, fruits and fresh lean meat. The actress also exercises three times a week to keep that great body in shape.
