The Maker's Diet. How to Lose Weight the Biblical Way?

By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor
December 11, 2008

The Maker’s Diet was designed by Jordan Rubin, a man who, in the past, suffered from Chrons disease. His idea to deal with his disease was to reverse the symptoms by going a on a regimen consisting of whole foods.

This diet is based in Biblical principles and Rubin focused on the four pillar of health in constructing the diet : physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental. The nutritional principle came from the dietary laws of the ancient Jewish. This means that the diet includes only pure and natural foods. Pork, bacon and fish without scales or fins are excluded from the diet plan.

The Maker’s nutrition plan should be followed for 40 days, and exercises are included, as well as prayer. The main principles of this diet are: no processed foods and chemicals, which may be considered a detoxification, drink as much water as you can and get plenty of rest; avoid situations which may cause lack of motivation to continue the diet and, very important, don’t let your emotions decide what you eat.

There are three phases you have to pass through in order to get the results promised. The first one lasts two weeks and it’s the strictest phase of the three. That’s because its intention is to detoxify the body and pass to the new healthy eating habits. During this phase, caffeine, artificial sweeteners , sugar, and preservatives are forbidden.

The second phase lasts also two weeks and, in it, it is presented the new healthy life. Some foods that were restricted in the first phase are now allowed. Jordan says that by the end of this phase, the dieter is expected to lose weight. The third phase introduces more restricted food from the anterior phases, such as potatoes, bread, and bananas.

After the 40-day diet, the dieter is expected to have learned how and what to eat in order to have a healthy life. There is also a line of supplements under the name of “Garden of Life”, but it advisable to avoid it.
