Oprah, We Have a Problem!
By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor
December 12, 2008

Oprah Winfrey is better known as simply Oprah. But she is surely not a simple woman, and neither is her life, especially her weight loss. This last issue has been a headline since 1980’s. For more than 20 year, the TV star has lost weight, gained weight, lost weight, gained weight. This complex woman has recently realized she lost control over her weight and that she’s got a problem… and a solution.

This 54-year-old media mogul and star of one of the most watched talk shows worldwide is currently weighting 200lbs. Her weight fluctuations are like episodes from a movie and people have been watching it as if it was “The Truman Show”. Exactly twenty years ago, Oprah was a happy woman, after she managed to lose 67lbs. Even then she wasn’t a Hollywood size 2 kind of star, but the wheel barrel packed with her ex-67lbs of fat parade became more famous than, for instance, a fabulous celebrity dress on the red carpet.

Her diet was a pure liquid protein one, which she followed religiously for four months. That means she ate no food in that whole time. And what happens after a four month period of fasting? She began a new diet, based on cheating. Every day. So, she gained the weight back. And the Yo-yo dieting repeated itself over and over again.

"I thought I was finished with the weight battle. I was done. I'd conquered it. I was so sure, I was even cocky,” she said. In a interview for a magazine, she explains the climax moment was when she had to pick a gown for the inauguration of Barack Obama. That is when Oprah decided to admit to her public and to the media she has "fallen off the wagon".

"I'm mad at myself. I'm embarrassed. I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight,” she says. Oprah has also sais she’s angry with herself for letting things get out of control. “I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?'" From weight charts it results that Oprah is obese. Last year she found out she had health problems and that’s the gaining weight began.

The TV star was not getting enough sleep and started having heart palpitations when exercising.“I actually developed a fear of working out,” she explained. Now she believes the best solution is to exercise and eat healthy. She is became realistic and said that she doesn’t aim to be Hollywood thin. “My goal is for my body to be the weight it can hold – to be strong and healthy and fit.”
