Celebrities to the Rescue: Jessica Simpson's New Figure
By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor
February 10, 2009

For sure, everybody has already read about Jessica Simpson’s weight gain. Some say she might be pregnant and others that it’s just a strategy to get some media attention. Neither of the two rumors has been confirmed but one thing is obvious: Jessica has gained a few pounds.

The singer admitted she’s 25 lbs heavier that six month ago but refused to give any explanation about this. The weight gain has brought her a lot of coverage in the media in the few past weeks. Jessica will appear on the covers of In Touch, US Weekly, and People magazines, and her only response to all the mean reactions in the media is: “I’m not fat!”. The singer is amazed about the fact that everybody’s noticing her new curved figure and gossiping about her weight gain.

The size-zero Hollywood obsessions, which has tortured numerous celebrities, is not coming to an end even if every star out there is taking a stand and is defending Jessica.
"I think this is absolutely ridiculous. People are being so mean. People don't realize that it's damaging to one's psyche. For women, it's hard enough to be accepted for how you are. She's a beautiful girl. At least she's been in the business long enough to know that this, too, will pass,” says Paula Abdul.

Cooper Lawrence, author of "The Cult of Celebrity: What Our Fascination With the Stars Reveals About Us” explains why this is happening: "Our contract with you is for you to look gorgeous at all times. It's like a job description. We hired you to be our celebrity, and if you're not doing what we expect, we're going to notice."

He also adds that it’s all about our expectations when it comes to Hollywood perfect celebrity figures. "Should we feel bad about criticizing Jessica Simpson? No, because when I look at her and feel she's perfect and beautiful and I'll never live up to that image, and then I see even she couldn't keep up with those unrealistic expectations, that makes me feel better,” says Lawrence.

“I'll show you I have fat rolls. I have cellulite here and there, but I just want people to know that I'm a real person,” said Jessica, defending herself.
