The Soul singer teaches her children how to eat healthy, so they would develop a healthy body. Is it all right for a child to be on a diet? If so, which diet? Badu’s daughter, Mars, is on a macrobiotic diet, according to Contactmusic.com. Actually, little Mars is on a diet along her brothers, Seven Siriu and Puma Rose. The macrobiotic diet is based on grains, vegetables, and sea weeds that should be consumed in their natural condition, without processing. This diet cuts out most sugars and fats. “The more children you have, the more you get into health and holistic living. Which goes so far beyond being a vegan,” said Erykah, who is a vegan for years. She teaches her kids the benefits of having a healthy body. However, a study from Netherlands, conducted by Dagnelie PC and van Staveren WA, found that major muscle and skin wasting occurred in 30% of macrobiotic children. Also, they were significantly slower in locomotion and less developing their speech and language, according to The National Center for Biotechnology Information. Appropriately planned vegan diets could satisfy the nutrient needs of infants, but if there is no communication between parents and infants, they might be at risk. The original macrobiotic diet includes 30% vegetables, 10% cereal, 10% soups, 15% salads and fruits, 30% animal products, and 5% desserts. Kids need a balanced diet, meaning fruits, vegetables, meat, nuts, milk, dairy products, and whole-grain foods. Always ask for a dietician’s advice when you want to start a diet for you or your family. ©2010 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
