The Budwig Diet

By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
April 26, 2010

A German biochemist proposed a special diet for cancer patients. Dr. Johanna Budwig published many books on this subject and holds a Ph.D. in Natural Science. The Budwig Diet is popular since 1951, being also known as The Flaxseed (Linseed) oil.

Dr. Budwig found that seriously ill cancer patients have blood deficiencies in phosphatides and lipoproteins, according to Cancer Cure Foundation. Replacing ingredients that include those substances can make weakness and anemia disappear, restore life energy, and gradually recede tumors.

Cottage cheese and organic flax seed oil can help cancer sufferers. Dr. Budwig made solid clinical application for over 10 years and she succeeded with her formula. The successful formula consists of low-fat cottage cheese with flaxseed oil, according to Dr. Budwig's program.

Dr. Budwig is against chemical processing of the oils because that can harm the body. She claims her diet is both curative and preventative. So this diet includes only unrefined, cold-pressed oils that have high linolic acid content, like sunflower, linseed, poppy seed, soy, walnut, and flax oils. However, if they’re not consumed with foods containing the right proteins can cause more harm than good.

The best combination is linseed oil and cottage cheese. The linseed should be freshly ground. It’s safe to include in this diet carbohydrates containing natural sugar, honey, carotene, and vitamin B.

Carbohydrates containing natural sugar are figs, dates, pears, grapes, and apples. Buttermilk, natural yeast, and yogurt are great sources of vitamin B. Eating carrots provides you lots of carotene. Don’t eat synthetic vitamin A preparations because they contain oxidation products, which are bad.

The daily recommended “dose” includes almost 1.5 oz. of linseed oil mixed well with 4 oz. of cottage cheese, in combination with the other foods mentioned above. Always ask for a dietitian’s advice when you want to start a diet.
