Kelly Preston and her husband, John Travolta have good news: They will have a baby. Good nutrition during pregnancy is important, so what should Kelly Preston eat? Pregnant women should consume about 300 more calories than they used to before getting pregnant, according to WebMD. It may be difficult to have a balanced diet during the first months of pregnancy because of nausea and vomiting, but it is worth giving a try and taking vitamins. To get all the needed nutrients, women should eat a variety of foods. Recommendations say they should eat 6-11 servings of grains and bread, at least four servings of vegetables, two to four servings of fruits, three servings of protein sources, and four servings of dairy products. It is important that pregnant women have enough minerals and vitamins in their diets, so they should talk to their doctors about prenatal vitamin supplements. Neural tube defects can be prevented by eating dark green leafy vegetables and legumes. On the other hand, excessive intake can harm their health; e.g. more than 10,000 IU/day of vitamin A intake may be associated with fetal malformations. Alcohol could harm pregnant women as well. It was linked to mental retardation, premature delivery, and birth defects. Caffeine should be limited and saccharin replaced with aspartame, sucralose, and acesulfame-K. Mexican-style cheese, swordfish, shark, tilefish, and king mackerel are other foods that shouldn’t be eaten. John Travolta’s expected baby won’t replace Jett, but at least it will sweeten his life, after all he has been through. May Kelly Preston and John Travolta have a healthy baby. ©2010 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
