Spinning: Energy, Music, and Hundreds of Burned Calories
By Sarah Dallins, Project Weight Loss Editor - Fitness
March 10, 2008

Spinning is a cardio program of stationary cycling that helps you lose the extra weight and release the tension during the day. People need to go to the gym in order to practice this sport because there are bicycles specially designed for this sport.

For spinning, the instructor is more focused on stimulate and motivate the participants. That is why spinning is associated with music and different rhythms for different speeds of pedal. During the workout, there are phases when you need to pedal as fast as you can, phases when you need to reduce speed, stand on your feet on the bicycle, and pedal.

The program lasts between forty minutes and one hour, including the warm-up and a few stretching exercises at the end. The necessary equipment for spinning includes short pants specially designed for the bicycle that will make you avoid subsequent pains, a T-shirt, socks, rigid sneakers, and water.

Before you get on the bike, make sure the seat is properly adjusted for your comfort. When you stay up next to the seat, it should be with five centimeters lower than your hip and when you`re pedaling the knee should not cross over the level of your hip.

Spinning works on the back muscles, hips, buttocks, belly, thighs, and arm muscles. This sport improves the activity of the cardio-respiratory system and increases the resistance to effort. Plus, people can decide by themselves the intensity of the workout due to the button placed on the bicycle. However, speed can be increased only after the effort resistance increases because the heart, lungs, and muscles should not be under too much pressure.

You can burn between 500 and 700 calories in forty-five minutes of spinning. Always talk to a specialist before starting a diet or a fitness program.
