He was recently nominated for the Oscars for his performance as a supporting actor in Tropic Thunder. This took Robert Downey Jr. under surprise as he was probably googleing himself. Downey is a hot actor who sometimes finds it hard to stick to a healthy lifestyle. His part in “Iron Man” is memorable as Downey worked very hard to get in that amazing shape. He started training five month pre-filming and, in order to get the “Iron Man” look, Downey got the help of personal trainer Brad Bose. “The challenge here was to keep him from looking too much like a superhero. His character is an alcoholic and a womanizer, and he’s an arms dealer. They didn’t want a six-pack or bulging muscles, but they wanted to see that he had the power to forge iron,” said Bose. The results were unbelievable: after 5 months, Downey gained twenty pounds of muscle. His “transformation” routine consisted of a five days a week workout. Downey was practicing intensive martial arts training, cardio and weight lifting. Bose also used some special high tech equipment to help Downey get strong: the Pineapple, Jacob’s Ladder, and the Vortex. The fact that Downey was already practicing kung-fu and was a passionate jogger was a plus and made things not so difficult. “He’s a doctor in this stuff. A lot of people out here are good and gifted and they’ve got books out. But when you go back and find out, what they really know about physiology is kind of limited. But he’s the guy," said Downey. ©2009 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
