Basketball and Health: Look Good like Richard Jefferson
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
June 24, 2009

Richard Jefferson moves to the San Antonio Spurs. He is a great basketball player, having an average of 21.1 points per game. Richard does what he likes and he’s good at it, so it was a salutary deal for the Spurs.

To be a great basketball player is not enough to know how to play. It matters to understand that basketball is a team sport and that you need a healthy and fit body to help you do your best. Besides the fame it brings, basketball has other benefits, like burning calories, improving coordination, building up muscle, develop concentration and self-discipline.

Basketball is a game for people of all ages and all abilities. It helps you socialize and teaches you how to be a good team player. An advantage is you can play alone – just find a net and a hoop. Being an indoor sport, you won’t be conditioned by weather.

Like any other physically demanding, basketball makes you strong and flexible. Before playing it’s best to warm up, stretch your muscles and joints. Also it’s good to stretch after playing and to cool down, but don’t drink cold beverages – you don’t want to get sick.

Have any kids? It’s a great and healthy way to spend your time with them, not to mention all the fun you’ll have.

It is important to be competitive. There are people who want the same job as you, the same car, the same house, maybe the same lover, so you should be a competitive person. How do you get competitive? Play basketball! Still, you can’t always win. Knowing how to lose is as important as being competitive –yes, basketball again. It teaches you to go on no matter what.

Succeed in life, stay healthy and learn to enjoy life. Playing basketball you’ll learn all these, but most important, you’ll relax and have fun. Look at Richard Jefferson or President Obama – they play this game and look where they are now.
