Funny Ways to Work Out Using a Pumpkin
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer October 30, 2009
Halloween is almost here – have you bought the pumpkins yet? How about your costume? If not, there’s still time; if you did, well, there’s still time to use them for exercises. What can be more fun than working out with a pumpkin? Working out in your costume is optional, ha, ha, ha.
Eating all that good stuff you get from “trick or treat” can spoil your diet, unless you burn the calories. You would be amazed how many exercises you could do with a pumpkin. Imagine your pumpkin is a medicine ball. You can do swings, press ups, squats, overhead presses, lunges with a twist, crunches, planks, Russian twists, one leg reaches, or burpees. How to do pumpkin swings: Hold the pumpkin with your arms extended, staying on your heels, push your hips back while you also bring the pumpkin underneath your body and keep your eyes up and chest out. Next push the hips forward, swing the pumpkin up to the chest level, and be sure to squeeze the glutes at the top of the movement. How to do pumpkin curl to squat to presses: Hold the pumpkin with your arms extended, curling the pumpkin to your chest as you’re squatting down until the front thighs are parallel to the floor, and keeping your eyes up and the weight on your heels; then stand up while you press the pumpkin overhead. How to do pumpkin burpees: Hold the pumpkin with your arms extended while you squat down to the floor; next jump your legs out to adopt a push-up position, which you will perform with your hands on the pumpkin, afterwards reversing the movement to stand back up. These being said, I wish you a spooky, but happy and energizing Halloween! ©2009 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
