December 14, 2007All diets and health magazines present the harmfulness effects of large sugar intake on your health. If you can consume tea or coffee without sugar, then you`re a lucky person. However, if you don`t, you still have two options: honey, which leads to weight gain, and artificial sweeteners.
Saccharine is made of oil and is 500 times sweeter than the sugar. If we consider the fact that this product will not be assimilated by the body as sugar is, and that it will be eliminated unmodified through urine, then it`s not the healthiest sweetener.
American researchers proved that the main ingredient of artificial sweeteners, aspartame, is actually leading to weight gain instead of weight loss. The aspartic acid stimulates insulin production which will store glucose as fat. This way, you may face hypoglycemia and craving for sweets.
Plus, it was proved that the aspartic acid may decrease the serotonin production and you won`t feel the sense of fullness. This can make you consume larger amounts of carbohydrates and gain weight. Although you will consume only low-calorie products and small amounts of fat, you will feel the need to satisfy your cravings sooner or later.
The regular consumption of saccharine may lead to more severe conditions such as migraines, dizziness, sleep apnea, short-term memory loss, neurological, metabolism, and endocrine problems. Aspartame may also cause different types of cancer, gastrointestinal and kidney problems.
If you cannot completely give up unhealthy eating habits, at least try to reduce consumption. Although you may not see immediate results, if you avoid chemical products in your diet, it will only have positive effects on long term.
