The Holiday Diet Predicts Your New Year`s Start
By Andrea Pelin, Project Weight Loss Editor in Chief
December 21, 2007

It`s the Holiday Season and time to relax, meet friends, family, and forget about the daily stress. Generally, the weight gain after the holidays is between seven and thirteen pounds. People need to pay attention to what they eat in order to stay fit during holidays and start the New Year without any extra-pounds.

You may decrease the risk to suffer indigestions if you wait for at least an hour before eating again. Choose light snacks such as low-fat cheese, seafood, or turkey or chicken sirloin. Try to avoid foods with large amounts of fat like high-fat sauces or unhealthy salad dressings. You may choose instead poultry products, turkey, fish, or fresh fruits and vegetables rich in fibers.

During holidays you may want to limit the consumption of orange juice, tomatoes, spices, and acid products in general. These foods may lead to indigestion. However, if you chew the food enough you may avoid unwanted gastrointestinal disorders.

Water plays a key role because it maintains your digestive system active and prevents dehydration that slows down metabolism. Pay attention to the sweet beverages consumption. They will only make you gain weight and feel full.

Alcohol consumption requires special attention because the excess may lead to a series of problems such as high blood pressure, increased activity of the central nervous system, and gastrointestinal disorders. However, people consume large amounts of alcohol during holidays. Red wine should be consumed as natural as possible, without additives, in order to avoid migraines, and in moderate amounts in order to take advantage of all its benefits.

A brisk walk after parties or meals is also a good way to make you feel better when you`re stuffed from holiday indulgences.
