Grapes, Good for the Heart
By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor
October 29, 2008

Cardiovascular researchers have discovered another miraculous seed which helps people with high blood pressure.  The patients who participated at the study have learned the true benefits of a simple grape seed extract.

It seems U.S. researchers have made another step forward in improving heart functions.  The solution is a mixture of different types of grapes: green, red and black.  This was, afterwards blended into the lab rats’ diet, in the form of a powder.  The researchers observed then the differences between the rats that consume the mixture of grapes and the other ones, which have not received the grape powder.  The rats the researcher chose were part of a special breed which develop high blood pressure when eating salty foods.

The study took 18 months and the researchers discovered that the rats which were fed with grape powder actually had a lower blood pressure and a better heart function.  In addition to this, heart muscle damage was reduced and so was the inflammation.
At the other rats that received a salty diet and a blood-pressure medicine called hydrazine, was also observed a lower blood pressure, but in the “heart damage” sector there was no change, compared to the grape-fed rats.
