The President's Wife, Michelle Obama, Loves to Work Out
By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor
November 07, 2008

Michelle Obama was the one who encouraged her husband, President Obama, to give up smoking.  Not necessarily because of the presidential campaign, but mostly due to healthy issues.  She believes in family values, honesty and a healthy lifestyle.  On the election night, “eyes” were no only on the President, but also on his wife, who was looking great in a Rodriguez red and black dress.  How does a president wife and working mom keep in shape?

Michelle has 44 years and still tries to find time to work out.  “I go to the gym three times a week — as often as I can, really.  I work with a fabulous trainer for about an hour each session. We do a lot of cardio and weight training.  For me, exercise is more than just physical — it’s therapeutic,” she explains.  It was rumored in the magazines that when she doesn’t find the time to go to the gym during the week, she wakes up at 4.30 a.m. and works out on the treadmill.

She also likes to ride her bike in the park with her husband which, she says, relaxes them.   Michelle says that being active and exercising is a priority for her.  “I love to work out - it's cathartic for me, and I make it a point to get a good work out in when I'm home from the campaign trail,”, she said.  She admits that eating healthy during the campaign was a difficult thing to do, but when she’s not on the road, eating healthy is a habit.

But when she’s on the road, those are her happy cheating days.  “We just got back from South Carolina, and some of my favorite stops on our campaign swing were at some great barbeque and fried chicken spots across the state.  You just can't beat a good plate of barbecue.”   And what goes better with that other than French fries, which, by the way, are her favorite food.
