What You Should Know About Proteins
By Andrea Pelin, Project Weight Loss Editor
January 29, 2009

Proteins are always a part of our regular diet, but do we know all about them? Most of the proteins are found in eggs, milk, or soy and these are some of their strong and weak points.
Approximately twenty percent of the proteins found in milk are buttermilk proteins, and eighty percent represent casein.

The proteins found in buttermilk are important for the immune system, are easy to digest, and they don`t leave a false feeling of fullness. These proteins are good because they can stimulate insulin production and protect the muscle tissues. The bad thing about proteins from buttermilk is that they don`t keep you full for too long and have low amounts of glutamine.

The casein is a protein rich in glutamine that gives you a sense of fullness. However, many people are allergic to these kind of proteins. The proteins found in eggs are considered efficient in case of enhancing metabolism, but they have a slightly bitter taste. The proteins found in soy may help reduce the risk of heart disease along with a low-fat diet, according to the Food and Drug Administration(FDA).

They are also efficient for people who suffer from thyroid. One disadvantage of soy proteins is that they don`t contain all the essential amino-acids. Each type of protein has its advantages and disadvantages. It is important that you don`t stick to one single type. You should combine all types of proteins in order to take advantage of all their benefic effects.
