Best Exercise to Lose Weight?
Author: Jone Dow

Exercise along with diet are two of the key elements when it comes to weight loss, but what is the best exercise to lose weight? That's a rather hard question to answer, as there are lots of variables that would come into play. Some exercise might require a lot of technical knowledge (Olympic lifts for example) and the results of others could differ from person to person. Best is a subjective word. However, if we define best as in the most calories burned in the least amount of time spent, then there is no doubt in my mind that the best exercise is - tabata exercise.

What's tabata exercise? It was the name of a scientist who did the research on the subject of if doing exercise at high intensity with short break in between would give a better results than spending that time doing the same exercise at a medium intensity, or something along those lines. Tabata is method where you do exercise at high intensity have a short rest, then do it again. Doing exercise at high intensity results in much more calories burned compared to medium or low intensity if the time is the same. It also stimulates muscle development a lot more.

Almost any exercise can be done in a tabata style. Some of the popular ones are squats and push ups - as neither requires any equipment or much knowledge to do and can be done anywhere. So for example for tabata push ups, you would do as many push ups as you can in 20 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds, then do another 20 seconds worth, then rest etc etc. You would do 8 series of 20 seconds of push ups with 10 seconds in between. The goal being to do as many push ups total as you can.

Best part about this? The example above only takes 5 minutes to complete and will leave someone more tired (and burn more calories) than most people's regular hour long work out. Combine it with the fact that it let's you to turn boring exercise into fun, and allows you to set mini goals to achieve to keep you focused on the program. And it comes as no surprise that tabata exercise are some of if not the best exercise to lose weight, especially if you are short on time.
