May 06, 2009 Anodyne therapy is a light therapy used to relieve the pain, stiffness, circulation irregularities, and muscle spasms. This treatment is usually given in order to improve physical therapy. It works by increasing circulation and/or relieving pain in the area where it is experienced.
Anodyne therapy was first used in 1994. This therapy comes from the word anodyne which refers to a medical treatment that relieves or soothes pain. As a relatively inexpensive treatment, this kind of therapy gains popularity. Anodyne therapy is now being investigated for other of uses as well, including diabetic neuropathy.
For chronic conditions typical protocols will require a treatment with at least 30 minutes three times per week for almost 4 weeks. For acute conditions where the pain may be severe, treatments should be given up to three times per day. Don’t plan this all by yourself. It is a serious thing so the care plan should be set by a physician, nurse or therapist based on a clinical judgment of the severity and duration of the condition.
Some people feel pain relief in the first treatment, although others need about 6 treatments to feel improvement. If you have not felt any improvement within 12 treatments, this therapy may not be effective for your condition.
As every treatment has, you need to be careful at possible side-effects. Anodyne Therapy shouldn’t be used directly over or near: the womb during pregnancy, active cancerous tumors, and topical heating and cooling agents.
Always consult a specialist before starting any diet or workout plan. What works for others may not work for you. This information is for educational and entertainment purposes and is not medical or diet advice.
