Not too long ago Jeff Ament and Mark Anthony Smith were attacked outside the Southern Tracks studio, in Atlanta. The thieves had stolen their equipment and cash. After the robbery Jeff Ament suffered lacerations to the back of the head. Ament ran away but those three thieves followed and punched him. If we think about it he was lucky he got away only with lacerations. We don’t have information about the band employee. Watch where you’re going at night and try to stay away from bad neighborhoods. In case you’ll ever suffer lacerations, here are some tips as treatment: Taking care of yourselves at home You can stop the bleeding with direct pressure and time. To reduce the chance of bacterial infection cleans the wound with water and soap. These being done, you need to protect the wound with antibiotic ointment and a sterile gauze bandage. Getting Medical Treatment Stopping the bleeding is still the main purpose. If it’s not working just with direct pressure, doctors will give you a blood pressure cuff. This is a temporary measure for cuts on legs and arms. To reduce the pain there are typical medicines, injection of anesthetic into the wound, or an injection into a regional nerve. Then comes the cleaning and protecting the wound. Depending on wounds, doctor chooses what’s best for you. Stitches If you have stitches you need to be careful before and after removing them. On doctor’s recommendation, facial stitches can be removed after 4-6 days. Sutures in your hand can be removed after 14 days. It will take almost 6 weeks to heal the cut. Infections Watch out for infections. Signs of infection include draining pus, severe pain, fever and chills, wound swelling. In case of infections you need to check with your doctor. Scars To prevent scars you should avoid sun exposure and infections. Scar creams may help you, but their effectiveness hasn’t been proven yet. ©2009 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
