Advantages and Disadvantages of the Calorie Restriction Diet Plan
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
July 01, 2009

With nowadays lifestyle, full of calories and nutrient deficient foods some risks might appear. The solution for healthier lifestyle is calorie restriction diet that may help you feel younger and mightily. This plan relies on high nutrient foods. Still, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the calorie restriction diet plan?

Choose fresh fruits and vegetables – they are important for this diet plan. Tomatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, chili peppers, and beans should take part in your meals.

Tomatoes are important for your health. They reduce the risk of having prostate or other types of cancer.

Garlic and onions are fighting bacteria. They also lower cholesterol, protect against stroke and heart attack, and lower the risk of having cancer.

Chili peppers can be a great substitute for salt. Well, don’t take as a complete substitute for it, because a meal without salt may not be so tasty, but use it to reduce your salt intake. Adults should eat less than a teaspoon of sodium a day.

Use carrots instead of potatoes. A single carrot can supply your vitamin A needs for the entire day. According to researchers, these vegetables have a protective effect against ultraviolet light.

Beans are low fat and high protein. They stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, and fight cancer. Beans are beneficial to those with diabetes.

I mentioned a calorie restriction diet has advantages and disadvantages. Among advantages I’ll mention that it extends longevity, improves efficiency, and decreases disease risk factors thanks to the weight loss that diminishes some risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and high blood cholesterol. This diet plan also focuses on healthy foods.

A disadvantage may be the nutrient deficiency:  It’s difficult to maintain health and limit calories, especially because the food available in this diet is not nutrient dense.  Limiting and counting calories could cause obsessive behavior, leading to anorexia and bulimia.

If you change your lifestyle and choose the calorie restriction diet plan, do it with caution.  This diet, associated with weight loss, can make you become underweight.
