August 05, 2009 A plateau is when you can’t lose weight anymore even if you diet and exercise. Because of this weight loss plateau many people give up their program. In this article I’ll explain when it appears and what can you do to make it disappear.
The plateau usually appears when you lose 5-10% of your weight. If you stop the weight loss program when you deal with this plateau there are high chances to gain back 40-60% of the weight you have lost. So don’t give up! Wait for it to go away so you can lose weight again.
You should consider yourself victorious because this plateau is a normal reaction which allows your body to adjust to the new changes. It means you have successfully lost weight.
Once your body has adapted, you will start losing weight again. So while you wait, why don’t you make a little research? Maybe you’ll find some ways to lose weight, other than the ones that you have used before. Actually it is recommended to change your fitness routine. If you don`t like the diet, choose another one.
Bottom of line, whatever you do, just don’t stop your weight loss program. It will be a pity for the efforts you made. Don’t try to lose lots of pounds in short term. The best way to lose weight is to take one step on a time. Small reductions in weight reduce the risk for diabetes, heart disease, and other obesity-related problems.
There are cases when the plateau lasts almost a month – the solution is a reduction of 100 calories/day and an increase in exercise intensity.
Choose a diet that doesn’t make you starve and don’t exercise until you faint. Everything must be done with moderation, otherwise you’ll become stressed and crash your metabolism.
