Kelly Osbourne’ Size 8 Brought Her a Foot Injury

By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer

Kelly Osbourne danced with Louis van Amstel on “Dancing with the Stars,” TV series that brought her benefits and detriments. What happened to Kelly?

As a result of her hard training for the competition, Kelly Osbourne feels healthy, especially after her weight loss. At least until she danced on the show and hurt her foot. She amazed viewers with her dance, but Kelly injured her foot after her paso doble with Louis van Amstel.

At the hospital doctors made her some tests to see how bad the injury is. They don’t know yet if she can continue the competition, which is half way through. Kelly’s dancing partner told E! Online: “At the end of our paso doble Kelly banged her foot on the floor which may have caused an injury.”

It’s best to prevent these accidents; of course you have to do some research for that. Let me make it easy for you - bellow you will find some information about several common dance injuries and their causes.

Any physical activity comes with a risk of injury. New dancers should build their flexibility and strength slowly and safely. Warming-up is a must before any physical activity, dance being no exception.

A muscle strain can cause tenderness of the muscle, along with a possible swelling. It’s caused by poor flexibility and sudden contraction of a muscle; usually a muscle strain happens in the lower back.

A muscle cramp is painful and it is usually felt in the front of the thigh and in the back of the leg. It’s caused by an imbalance of fluid, potassium, or salt from heavy sweating, or by fatigue or muscle tightness. You can prevent muscle cramps if you stretch before and after dancing.

Plantar fasciitis causes inflammation to the foot and chronic pain, particularly to the heel or in the arch. It’s a risk that should be taken into consideration by ballet dancers who wear pointe shoes.

Shin splints may cause pain in the front portions of your lower legs. They’re caused by poor flexibility and jumping on hard surfaces, or improper landing.

Stress fractures occur especially in the shins or balls of your feet. They cause pain and swelling. That’s what you will get if you jump and land repeatedly, without paying attention to your activity. Female ballet dancers should be very careful.

Let’s hope Kelly Osbourne will be able to continue the competition because she’s a great dancer and after all that hard work she deserves to win. Good luck, Kelly!
