October 28, 2009 Monica has a new TV show on BET. She sees “Monica: Still Standing” like “an opportunity to get a positive message” to the world. Could her poor health be influenced by stress?
“Monica: Still Standing” features R&B singer’s fight for balancing work and family life while dealing with triumphs, trials, and health challenges.
Monica’s doctor told her she suffers from high blood pressure. The news shocked the singer and took measures right away. Besides the medication prescribed to help her combat the health concern, she has changed her lifestyle.
“It's me now wanting to exercise and just ; it's not for vanity purposes. I'm changing my eating patterns. I was addicted to Lawry's Seasoning Salt on my soul food - addicted to Old Boy seasoning. That stuff was killing me slowly. I ain't even been around long enough yet,” said Monica, according to Contactmusic News.
High blood pressure can be considered a disease of the modern age. According to studies, following potassium and calcium rich diets, you can lower the incidence of hypertension even without controlling the salt-intake. Magnesium is important too – it is an anti-stress mineral that works closely with potassium and sodium. Omega-3 fats can reduce the blood pressure as well, along with soluble fiber, garlic, and watermelon juice.
Other ways to improve your health, like Monica said, are keeping the weight moderate and exercising regularly.
Thinking about both her and her two children, Monica took action and changed her lifestyle in order to improve her health. She’s a good example, showing that measures should be taken before it’s too late.
