Does Iceland Volcano’s Ash Harm Your Health?
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer April 19, 2010
Iceland Volcano’s particles arrived in other countries as well. Should you be worried the ash coming from the volcano could harm your health? Right now only the weather could help clear the sky from volcanic ash. A good rain could disperse the cloud, according to Mail Online. No one knows how long the volcano may remain active. In 1821 Eyjafjallokull erupted for 13 months. People with respiratory conditions should take precautions. Taking the inhalers everywhere they go or just stay indoors should be a good idea in case of itchy eyes or throats. Same recommendations are made if it is a sulfurous or strongly acidic smell or a dusty haze in the air. If you wear contact lenses you may experience some slight discomfort. A negative effect is that foreign food supplies will cease to be shipped to their destinations while the air transport is banned. Due to this situation, prices may also rise. The pharmaceutical industry may be affected too. The good news is air traffic might start again soon, but on bigger prices. Airplanes can fly above the ash cloud, but they would consume more fuel. The bad news is that Eyjafjallokull might cause Katla volcano to erupt too. Last time when Katla erupted was a very cold winter in US, according to USATODAY.com. Let’s hope for the best. This will soon be over and everything will get back on track. ©2010 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
