Arnold Schwarzenegger's Path to Glory
By Neil Stadford, Project Weight Loss Editor Diet
May 05, 2008

When it comes to bodybuilding and fitness, motivation and determination are essential to succeed. Only few are able to accomplish this without any help. Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose name is known all around the globe, is the man that made it all possible. He is considered one of the first who took bodybuilding to a whole new level, showing the world that anything is possible if you truly believe in yourself.

After his astonishing success, he became the father of fitness and people always looked up at him with admiration and respect. So he decided to share with the world some of his secrets and thoughts on bodybuilding, in order to help others follow his steps to success. Many still believe that bodybuilding is simply about intense physical training and endurance.

Although physical training is required for muscular gain, Arnold revealed that for him bodybuilding was more of a mental challenge, because he always was the ”all or nothing” type. One of his personal quotes says that the whole secret is to ”make your mind work for you, not against you”. From his point of view, a person who is not mentally prepared for the long and hard road ahead of him will not be able to face and overcome the obstacles.

Arnold admits that back in the old days, bodybuilders never really focused on the diet part, which was a big mistake. Now he is convinced that proper diet plays the biggest part in the whole bodybuilding process. He recommends eating five or six smaller meals a day instead of three. Meals that should include chicken, fish, protein shakes and eggs (but no more than three a day). He also recommends a lot of sleep, even more than eight hours a day if necessary. In other words, a perfect diet requires consuming a lot of calories and keeping a low fat content.

And now for his personal workout routine. He believes that every man should adapt to his own style and create the routine that works best for him. He recommends that no body parts should be neglected at the beginning. Develop your own style of working all your muscle groups but remember to rest atleast three days a week. He also mentioned that for him, the whole bodybuilding process was like conducting an experiment on himself, so he never used an exercise just because everyone else was using it.

His sessions were, however, very intense, sometimes working too much just one group of muscles instead of moving on to the next. But this unique style made him the man he is today.

So, according to him, for the best results a man needs not only an iron will and a very good mental condition, but also the intelligence needed to be able to modify his routine and focus on a specific thing. Arnold inspired millions of bodybuilders around the world and brought hope for the ones that believed bodybuilding was a dream too far away to reach.
