May 14, 2009 Katy Perry performed at American Idol 8 in Elvis-garbed. Some say she looked good, some say she exaggerated with that outfit. One thing is sure – Katy sings well. The singer chose "Waking Up in Vegas" which is also on her debut album "One of the Boys". But let’s get back on today’s issue - how can her songs help people?
Not exactly only Katy Perry’s songs - any music can help you. Listening to music can ease stress, help recover from heart attacks, and it has benefic effects on pain and immunity as well. For example in Hawaii an experiment showed music had benefic effects on blood pressure, hormones, antibodies and breathing rates.
Another team of researchers found that music helps the immune system to boost compounds that defend the body against infections. Piped music is sometimes used before operations because it eases anxiety. There’s even a kind of music for recovering after the surgery - harp music.
However quick, pulsating rhythms music may have the opposite effects. The vigorous music may trigger negative emotions.
Music is handled and processed in different parts of the brain. There are many theories and one of them says it works through that part of brain which handles the emotion circuitry with effects on the production of key hormone, repairing nerves and relieving pain.
Music has also been effective as drug therapy, according to other studies. In Barcelona researchers proved that music is as good as diazepam or Valium when it comes to reduce anxiety before surgery.
