Dancing with the Stars and Having a Healthy Lifestyle
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer

Who won “Dancing with the Stars”?  This is what we all wondered if we missed the show.  Well, I’m telling you now - Shawn Johnson.  The gymnast defeated the French actor Gilles Marini.

The gymnast Shawn Johnson was the youngest competitor in “Dancing with the Stars”, being 17.  She was full of energy, but this isn’t something new since at 3 years old her parents put her in gymnastics because of too much energy.

Besides the victory at “Dancing with the Stars”, I’ll mention two of the most recent Shawn Johnson’s awards: on April 15, 2009 she was awarded the AAU James E. Sullivan Award; in 2008 she was ranked fifth in the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year voting and won the Teen Choice Award for best female athlete.

Shawn Johnson keeps a balance in her meals.  She doesn’t follow a special diet, but she stays away from sweets.  Because most of them are made exclusively from refined sugar that have no nutritional value.  Sweets may give a quick boost followed by a big slump.

“A normal breakfast for me is yogurt and scrambled eggs, lunch might be a wrap or salad with some fruit, and for dinner I eat a lot of fish or chicken and fresh vegetables” said Shawn.  Did you know that only 30% of people eat fish while 80% of them eat chicken?

Fish consumption is a good way to increase the amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in your body.  Omega-3 acids usually come from plants with green leaves, not only fish as many people would think, and they are accumulated in the animals that consume those leaves.  So it’s good to consume fish and chicken.

Not to mention the variety of vitamins found in fruits.  Fruits are good for dieting because they are low in calories, have vitamins, fiber, minerals, and may help reduce the risk of heart disease, some forms of cancer, and diabetes. They also contain antioxidants that slow down the processes that damage cells and tissues.
