June 10, 2009 Heather McComb is divorcing James Van Der Beek, the star from “Dawson's Creek”. The couple has been married since July of 2003. The actress is well known for her roles in “Party of Five” and “Prison Break.” It’s hard to rebuild yourself after a divorce. How can they emotionally recover from divorce?
Heather and James didn’t make public their separation right away. They must be tough because getting a divorce is never easy for any of the parties. Here are some tips for rebuilding after divorce:
To recover after divorce you need to split your personality because one part of you is calmly filling out financial disclosure forms and the other one is grieving. If there are kids involved you should devote some time to help them overcome this situation and get used to the transition. Remember you can’t help them if you neglect your own physical and emotional well-being.
You should also reexamine and reorganize your life. Don’t worry – I know it’s a cliché, but... – time will make disappear the confusion and pain. There will be moments of grief or anger but you must control yourself and make them go away. Try physical exercises or put down what you have learned from the relationship, something like a “thank you” note. You could help yourself while helping others in the same situation.
As long as you understand that all those feelings you have are normal and they’re part of the recovering process you’ll be all right. I’m talking about anger, anguish, bitterness, fear, frustration, hatred, and sorrow. Don’t deny them. Write them down, talk about them, laugh or cry, just let them out.
Don’t think you’ll recover in a few months. No – it could be years and you must accept it. If you rush things you’ll just lie to yourself. Meanwhile find out what you like, remember what you used to do but you gave up because of Ex. Most important, let your friends and family help you overcome your problems. You’re not alone and don’t need to make it through just on yourself. Let them reach you.
