Knowing to Accept Your Defeat: Ernests Gulbis' Life

By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
September 02, 2009

The Latvian professional tennis player, Ernests Gulbis, was defeated by Andy Murray in the US Open. It’s not all about wining; it’s about playing good and knowing to accept a defeat. Ernest likes other sports besides tennis and he is not the only sportsman in the family.

Ernests Gulbis first played tennis with his grandmother, according to Wikipedia. He also likes football, hockey, and basketball. Ernests is comfortable playing from all court positions, but he primarily employs an offensive baseline playing style.

Tennis and other sports are not just a way of making money; they are important for health and fun as well. Scientists say tennis is one of the best sports to be played in order to remain healthy.

Tennis

  • cuts the risk of death
  • improves your ability to accelerate and move quickly
  • strengths the legs
  • teaches you how to focus to solve the problems you may have in life
  • make you think strategies to defeat your opponent and anticipate his moves

Football

  • reduces blood pressure
  • lowers body and blood fats
  • increases muscle mass

Hockey

  • develops essential social skills
  • builds up speed, cardiovascular performance, and hand-eye coordination
  • helps in reducing body fat
  • improves lower and upper body muscle strength

Basketball

  • improves coordination
  • builds up muscle
  • develops concentration and self-discipline
  • helps you socialize and teaches you how to be a good team player
  • makes you strong and flexible
  • is a great and healthy way to spend time with your children

Ernests’ sister Laura attends Saddlebrook Tennis Academy in Florida. His other sister Monika also plays tennis. As for his brother Kristaps, he wants to be a professional golfer and attends Saddlebrook too.

Let’s see what benefits golf brings:

  • helps you get plenty of vitamin D
  • lowers harmful cholesterol and speeds up your metabolism
  • helps to sleep better at night
  • prevents bone degeneration, including osteoporosis
  • releases stress

You can’t always win, so knowing how to lose is as important as being competitive. Sports teach you how to go on, no matter what.
