Christmas’ magic can overwhelm people and makes them forget about fitness and diet programs. According to studies, average Americans gain up to 12 pounds between Halloween and the end of the year. How can you avoid this problem?

Planning parties, buying gifts, and busy schedules may leave no time to work out or eat healthy. “I will do those things right next year” doesn’t suffice. Here are some tips to avoid the shock when you want to get dressed and clothes aren’t suitable anymore.

Don’t diet during holidays. Instead of trying to lose weight, make a goal from keeping your current weight. This is a more realistic goal, according to FabulousLiving.com.

Try to exercise at least 20 minutes per week. It’s not much, but is better than nothing. Find a friend that might be interested in exercising with you. It’s more fun when you include friends in your fitness plan.

Don’t go to a party on an empty stomach. Before the big feast, have a small, healthy meal including lots of fiber.

Don’t eat too much. Eat and drink slowly, focusing on your friends and the event. The brain requires almost 20 minutes receiving the signal of fullness.

Alcoholic beverages have calories too. Drink wine or light beer, but don’t mix drinks. Mixed drinks can include up to 300- 500 calories, even more.

If it is a party where everybody brings something to eat, bring your low-calories dish too. At least you will know for sure what is definitely “safe” and healthy.

Don’t taste what you cook. Find someone else to taste it for you. You will be amazed how fast you can overcome your daily calorie intake.

Use portion control. Enjoy favorite foods, in small portions. Remember, everything is good, but with moderation.

Busy schedule doesn’t mean fast food meals. Keep your fridge full of low-calorie foods so you can make fast snacks.

Well, now it’s up to you - don’t overreact with your plans – enjoy winter holidays. Pay attention to your habits and do everything with moderation, so you won’t have to work hard in the gym early next year.
