Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Times Square
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
December 31, 2009

Once upon a time there was a van in Times Square. This van scared lots of people, but in the end police didn’t find anything harmful. And so, people have celebrated New Year’s Eve happily ever after. Enough kidding around – “the zone is secure” so let’s see how can you have fun tonight. You don’t want to miss the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball. The first ball occurred in 1907 and became a tradition, according to Times Square Alliance.

This celebration begins at 6 PM with the lighting and raising of the ball. It’s best to get there earlier so you would be closer to the action. The video screens are set up on One Times Square and the sound system on the Bowtie area. You can find additional screens at Broadway and 50th/52nd/54th/58th Streets.

Remember to dress warmly; you might spend lots of time in below-freezing conditions. Avoid alcohol and caffeine before going to Times Square. Also, drink lots of water – you don’t want to get dehydrated. There is no food or alcohol allowed in Times Square, but around it there are restaurants that will be open and reservations in advance are a must.

Here’s the program of this event:
