How to Get over a “Michael McAteer” Situation
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer May 03, 2010
Michael McAteer and Paul McCann have confirmed that Quinn Insurance’s employees are at risk to lose their jobs. How can an employee act when this happens? Corporate layoffs can be very stressful especially from the financial point of view. If it happens to you too, the best thing you can do is try to stay calm. Don’t complain about your employer because you might need him as a reference for your next job, so start updating your resume and ask for a reference. You’re not alone, so don’t hesitate to seek emotional help from your family and friends. Just because economy ruined a business doesn’t mean it was your fault, so nobody can blame you. Until you get a new job you should consider organizing your finances and making a new monthly budget. On your interview for a new job you must be prepared to answer questions about your job loss. Imagine what you might be asked and write down the answers. Don’t hide the reason you’ve got fired and tell how you have improved your skills since then. Don’t look at your job loss like a failure. Actually it is a new experience so try to make the best of it. Let your potential new employer know what have you learned from this situation. Don’t give all the details of the firing, but do tell the truth because your reference can be checked. When you go to a job interview don’t forget to dress appropriately. Also, keep records of job applications and interviews. It may be hard, but try to think positive. This kind of attitude can be the way to success. Remember everything happens for a reason and this can be a chance for a better life. ©2010 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
