American Flag Cake for the Independence Day
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
June 04, 2009

For those of you who were born today, the horoscope says your influence is growing. You’ll do something difficult and you’ll be rewarded for your choice. Why don’t you try a new cake? Your family (or guests if you’re going to have a party) will appreciate it for sure. Make this festive Flag Cake and you’ll be the talk of the party.

Ingredients

Flour

Margarine

1 package red flavor gelatin

1 package white cake mix and the other ingredients that you’ll find on box

1/2 cup cold water

1 cup boiling water

1 cup washed blueberries

1 cup Kraft miniature marshmallows

1/2 cups whipped topping, thawed

1 pint washed and sliced strawberries

Instructions

Grease a 13 x 9 inches pan with margarine. Next dust it lightly with flour. Take the cake mix box and read the directions. Follow them to bake it. When it’s done, leave it 15 minutes for cooling.

Take a large fork and make 1/2 inch holes in cake.

Take a mixing bowl and pure into it the gelatin. Add the cup with boiling water and mix them until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Put it over the cake using a measuring cup. This way you’ll make the red stripes on the cake.

Put the cake in the fridge and leave for 3-4 hours. Cover tray with aluminum foil.

Stream warm water in the kitchen sink until in reaches 1 inch in depth. Take the cake from the fridge and leave in the sink for 10 seconds. Using a large tray, cover the cake and invert.

Frost sides and top with whipped topping. Marshmallows and strawberries will be arranged in alternating rows for stripes except the field for the blueberries. Chill again until you’ll serve it.
