Jenna Fischer Talks about Food in the Office
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
October 09, 2009

Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly got married on "The Office," an American mockumentary television series on NBC. After five seasons of office flirtation, the couple got married in the sixth season. Jenna Fischer plays Pam since 2005. What’s her health plan?

She eats like French do - preservative-free. Jenna Fischer told Health magazine that on her trip to France she ate everything she wanted and still lost two pounds. “I ate everything and came back two pounds lighter. Someone told me it’s because of all the fresh food I had while I was there. So now I try to eat preservative-free,” she said.

One thing she can’t resist is sushi. “It’s healthy, so I let myself have it once or twice a week,” said Jenna. There’s a solution for vegetarians too - vegetarian sushi – here’s the recipe for six rolls.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of water
  • 3 cups of short-grain brown or white rice
  • 2/3 cup of rice wine vinegar
  • 6 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 package of pre-toasted nori sheets
  • Prepared wasabi paste
  • Choose a combination between cucumber, zucchini, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, carrots, daikon radish, asparagus, scallions, mushrooms, sesame seeds, and avocado fresh spinach.

Instructions

Bring the water to a boil and add the rice. Lower the heat, simmer for 40 minutes, and stir occasionally. Seed and julienne the cucumber, along with the other vegetables, steam them over boiling water for 5-7 minutes, but hold the avocado which should be raw, then let them cool to room temperature.

Put the brown sugar over the vinegar, stir until the sugar is dissolved, and add it on the cooked rice, stirring. After the rice and vegetables are cool enough, lay out the first nori sheet; in the center of the sheet place a handful of rice, moisten your hands with water, and press it to the edges of the sheet, leaving a linear thin layer of rice on the sheet. Next, spread a bit of wasabi paste on the rice for about 1.5" from one edge of the nori sheet. Parallel to the wasabi, lay vegetable strips in a width of about 1" along the wasabi line.

Be careful when you wrap the closest edge over the vegetables; roll the nori delicately, but tightly. Moisture the edge of the nori to seal it. Slice the roll into 6 pieces once the nori sheet is completely rolled and arrange on a platter. Do the same thing with the remaining nori sheets.

Experts think sushi can prevent or delay hypothyroidism (when you’re low on thyroid hormones), problem that can make you moody, achy, and bloated. Since a healthy thyroid needs iodine, magnesium, and selenium you should eat sushi or seafood.

I prefer the non-vegetarian sushi.
