A Recipe Worthy of the Flat Belly Diet
By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
December 22, 2009

Men are always ready to give up beer and their favorite foods... Yeah, right!

There’s a solution for guys who want to lose weight, but find a hard time doing it – try the “Flat Belly Diet For Men!” that comes just in time for the New Year’s resolution.

Liz Vaccariello has a new book, “Flat Belly Diet for Men,” focusing on monounsaturated fats and 400-calorie meals. The book has interesting tips and recipes, like Waffle Sunda and Pizza for Breakfast, according to Gail Gedan Spencer.

Until you buy the book, here’s one if its recipes- Almond, Blueberry and Brown Sugar Oatmeal, four servings:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of slivered almonds, toasted;
  • 2 cups of old-fashioned oats;
  • 4 cups of 1% milk;
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract;
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg;
  • 3 tablespoons of packed light brown sugar;
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Instructions

Take the almonds and toast them over medium heat in a large non-stick skillet. You must stir often; they’re done when the color is lightly browned. Put them on a plate.

Meanwhile combine the brown sugar, nutmeg, milk, vanilla oats, and salt over medium heat, in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer and stir occasionally, until tender. Then add blueberries, next almonds, and it’s ready to serve.

One serving of almond, blueberry and brown sugar oatmeal has about 12g fat, 17g protein, 59g carbohydrates, 400 calories, 279mg sodium, 15mg cholesterol, and 7g fiber.

Eating oatmeal can bring several benefits; e.g. it includes insoluble fibers that fight cancer; soluble fibers reduce LDL cholesterol; last but not least, oats have many nutrients and proteins. It’s not only yummy, but it is also healthy.
