You Don`t Have to Leave the House to Stay in Shape

If you are trying to stay in shape or lose weight and you don`t have enough money or time or you just don`t like to go to the gym, then you should know that regular activities you do around the house may help you lose weight, according to researchers at the University of Michigan Health System.

First of all, the main goal should be a healthier lifestyle, not just dropping pounds. This way, people can stay away from temporary adjustments, according to wellness coordinator Colleen Greene. Greene also offers the following tips for those who want to start a workout program around the house.

Tip #1: Get a fitness assessment by a personal trainer. This may help people set their goals and see whether they need to focus on their flexibility or increase the cardiovascular capacity.

Tip #2: Buy the right equipment. Instead of buying something that you will probably use as a coat hanger, buy something that is exciting to you.

Tip #3: Use your imagination! You have plenty of resources around the house, use them and save some money. For instance, use a can of soup as a dumbbell, or your own bodyweight for resistance exercises.

Tip #4: Embrace the outdoors. You can play with your children, do cross country skiing, or snowshoeing in order to bring more exercise to your life during winter months.

Tip #5: Ask for support. No matter if you go to a friend or find someone to work out with, you need help to stay motivated.

Tip #6: Add some “spice” to your routine. The funnier an exercise is, the more likely you are to stick with it, said Greene. It is also important that the workout program includes both aerobic and weight-training activities.

Tip #7: Be realistic, don`t expect results overnight. Significant results are achievable in time and a realistic expectation is an up to two pounds weight loss per week.
