Michael Phelps dreams for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, to win eight gold medals. So far, he won two gold medals and set a new world record in the 400 individual swimming events. Phelps stopped the clock at 4:03.84 breaking his previous record of 4:05.25 and setting a new world record. His gold medal was the first one awarded at the Olympics. His second gold medal leads US 4x100 meter freestyle relay team to a new world record. We all wonder about the diet which keeps such a good athlete in shape. Michael Phelps swims six days out of seven and five hours per day. This activity burns more than 4000 calories. So, one can`t really talk about a diet or a workout plan in regard to a professional athlete such as Phelps. He eats a lot, from 8000 to 10000 calories a day. He admitted he didn`t lift a single weight in his life, but that doesn`t mean he won`t in the future. He is 6’4” and about 200 pounds and all his muscular mass is the result of swimming. He said that the best workout in the world is swimming because it works out all your muscles. He eats everything he wants as much as he wants due to a great metabolism. Everything is about cramming in as many calories into his system as he possibly can. He says that sometimes he has problems keeping weight on. He takes multivitamins saying that they are a must because taking them helps a lot. Breakfast is his favorite meal of the day and he always had breakfast after he swims. He would sit down at the table and then polish off a stack of pancakes, an omelet, a bowl of grits, sometimes an egg and cheese sandwich or two. Everything followed by a little dessert. When he isn’t swimming, eating or sleeping he likes to play video games. He doesn`t cook, therefore the entire restaurant owners in Ann Arbor know him. He is known for eating a lot and never taking food home. His favorite order menus are: The Hungry Man, The Jennifer’s Dream Sandwich and Buffalo. The people from Ann Arbor talk about him as a modest and happy guy, because he is always smiling. Michael Phelps is a great athlete and makes us all smile due to his performance. Good luck Michael Phelps!
