Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Work out Like an Athlete
By Alice Mitchell, Project Weight Loss Editor October 28, 2008
She was easily noticed in 2001, after “surviving” the reality show “Survivor”. Television shows have caught her eyes and these day she’s co-hosting a famous talk show – “The View”. On Sunday, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has spoken for Sarah Palin at the Republican rally in Florida. Elisabeth was mostly grateful for her 5 minutes of uninterrupted glory. Audience was listening her talk about her feminist views but was also observing her beautiful body. Is “surviving” in a campaign battle field such a good work out? Elisabeth Hasselbeck entered in a battle field: the media spotlight. She believes media doesn’t provide a realistic body ideal and women’s imperfections, which are beautiful too, are always hidden with Photoshop. Elisabeth is one of the few persons that think they “owe it to girls out there to portray a healthy and true image of ourselves. ”She works out a lot. Imagine she’s had her second baby, Taylor, and two month later, in June, she’s slim and fit again and posing on the cover of Fitness Magazine. Talk about mission accomplished. Elisabeth has a special workout program and follows a diet, although not a strict one, which helped her get in shape for the photo shoot. When it comes to her workout plan, she’s got it going. For her, losing weight could also be perceived as an Olympic event. The co-host of The Views says that after giving birth to Taylor, “I got back into training like an athlete, running sprints, running long distance and using weights that I haven’t touched in a while.” Elisabeth worked out at the fitness center “La Palestra” in New York City and which is described by CEO Pat Manocchia as a “total integration”. “It's as much about your childhood and eating habits as it is about your biceps,” he adds. This might have been hard work but remember Elisabeth encourages women to live an active and healthy life by supporting the Women’s Sports Fundation’s GoGirlGo! program. The 31-year-old co-host says her workout program has revived her and strengthen her confidence. “Body image has nothing to do with scale numbers, it's how you feel inside. This is the first time I've felt free, because I am working out in a way where I feel so strong that there's no room for those doubts.” Her workout routine included daily runs, weight training and ab work two times a week. Elisabeth confesses this has made her feel like an athlete again. Accustomed to look good and exercise, her biggest fear isn’t not fitting in her jeans, it’s losing her strength. And her daughter appreciates that and encourages her: “Mommy’s strong!”. ©2008 Project Weight Loss. All rights reserved.
