Does Working Out Give You a Headache?
By Andrea Pelin, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer
March 31, 2009

Working out is good for your health but some physical activities such as running or lifting weights can leave you an annoying headache. The pain can last up to forty-eight hours and can get worse when you strain or bend over.

Although usually the headaches aren't serious, a medical exam is required because they may also have unknown causes like increased blood pressure. For almost ten percent of the people who experience exercise headaches, headaches may represent a serious health problem. It`s still unclear what causes the headaches but sometimes they may also bring nausea or vomiting.

The headaches occur more likely while you`re exercising at a high altitude or at a high temperature. Caffeine or alcohol could also be a cause of the headaches so you should be careful with the amount of coffee or alcohol consumed during your exercise program.

Exercise headaches are just as frequent for people with migraines as for those without.
You should seek medical advice, especially if you`re having exercise headaches for the first time. These kinds of headaches usually disappear on their own and may be prevented by following a regular exercise program created for your special needs.
