Make It or Break It - Achieve a Gymnast's Body

By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer

“Make It or Break It” drama from ABC Family focuses on young gymnasts who are fighting to win the Olympics. After only two seasons the TV series had 2.5 million viewers. One of the characters is Kaylie, a nice rich girl that breaks the main rules of the training. Her role is played by Josie Loren, a wonderful actress.

Josie finds a few similarities to her character, Kylie, according to Totally Her. The actress understands Kylie when she wants to be a regular teenager, but in the same time she wants to be an amazing Olympic gymnast. Also, like her character, Josie wants to make people around her happy with her performance.

Before the show Josie Loren trained about a month in order to do a great performance. “I think we worked out like every other day, and we did different workouts,” said the actress.

“A lot of the times we would work out on the beach, in the sand”, said Josie, a training that can be actually fun. Here are a few exercises that you can do on the beach. Like any other workout program, you need to warm up – you can jump the rope 3-4 minutes. Then you can start working out, meaning squats, jumping the rope, push-ups, triceps dips, andpelvis tuck crunch. To cool down you can have a gentle walk. That’s a hard training; for those who prefer an easier training, here are the alternatives: run on the beach, go for a swim, chuck a Frisbee, surf, play beach volleyball, fly a kite, or hire a kayak.

“Other days we would work out in the gym where we did a lot more gymnastics training, so we would be – we would get a lot more comfortable on the apparatuses,” continues the actress. While bodybuilders train muscle groups, athletes must train movements. To learn the skill correctly an athlete needs conditioning, which should match as closely as possible the movement patterns of the events.

“Other times we did workouts in a dance studio,” explained Loren. Dancing lowers your risk of coronary heart disease, helps you manage your weight, decreases blood pressure, and strengthens the bones of your legs and hips. Dancing is a great aerobic exercise that has lots of heart-healthy benefits, also being a loophole for socializing.

Josie Loren tries to look like a gymnast in the healthiest way possible – she eats healthy, goes to the gym, but above all, she does it with moderation. Moderation may be the key for many problems you confront in your life.
