How Does a Wrestler like Marty Jannetty Work Out?

By Alex Baran, Project Weight Loss Staff Writer

Marty Jannetty is a former Intercontinental Champion and World Tag Team Champion. Unfortunately he was defeated by The Miz, current United States Champion despite Jannetty’ strong punch line. How do wrestlers train, anyway?

It’s not easy to be a great champion in wrestling, like Marty Jannetty. Here’s a typical wrestling workout, a combination of cardiovascular training and strength training.

Every workout starts with a warm-up. Rope jumping is effective because it involves all muscle groups and helps you strengthen your whole body. The warm-up should last about five minutes.

Any warm-up is usually followed by stretching – assign 10 minutes for it. Start with the calves and continue with the legs, groin, lower and upper back, arms, shoulders, and neck.

Next comes a 40 minutes weightlifting. It’s recommended to lift with a partner. Don’t forget to take one minute rest between sets.

You’ve used the upper body, but you need to exercise with legs and lungs too. What’s a better way to do it if not running? Two miles are enough; it should take 15 minutes, which will be followed by ten 100-yard dashes. Allow 15 seconds pause between sprints.

After you finish your training it’s necessary to cool down your body – for that jump the rope for five minutes and stretch for another 10.

Nutrition plays a key role too. Choose a diet so that your body would receive enough nutrients and resist the extreme physical pressure. Try six up to seven meals a day and a lot of protein drinks.

For safety and optimum results you need to build up to everything and prepare yourself very good, otherwise you can get injured physically and mentally.
